Thomas J. Haupt to Lead the District

MILLERSBURG, PA.  April 23, 2015 -- The Millersburg Area Board of School Directors has appointed Mr. Thomas J. Haupt as the district’s next superintendent.  Mr. Haupt will begin leading the district on May 11, 2015.

Mr. Haupt currently serves as the Director of Elementary Education in the West Shore School District, a position he held since July, 2009.  Before that, he served as the principal of the Lemoyne Middle School in West Shore for almost three years.  He also completed a three year tour as an assistant middle school principal at Lemoyne.  Mr. Haupt began his teaching career as a special education teacher in the Camp Hill School District.

“The Board is excited to bring Mr. Haupt to lead our schools, as his professional background, along with a deep understanding of many aspects of school district operations, makes him an excellent fit for the staff and students of the district,” Board President Mark Rothermel said.

“With Mr. Haupt’s current administrative position at West Shore overseeing nine elementary school principals, the district’s transportation and food service departments, he brings a wealth of knowledge applicable to Millersburg”.  “Also, we recognize that our region presents an opportunity for Mr. Haupt to thrive by working closely with other educational leaders in the area,” Rothermel added.

Mr. Haupt received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, a master’s degree in special education from Shippensburg, and he has completed his coursework in the doctoral program in School System Leadership at Widener University.  “I am excited to get started at Millersburg.  I have really enjoyed the entire process, and look forward to working closely with the administrators, teachers, staff and board members as we create a compelling future for the students of Millersburg,” Haupt said.

“We also want to express our deepest appreciation to Ms. Sheree-Lee Knorr for serving the district so well over the years, as well as John Fronk as the district’s interim superintendent.  Ms. Knorr and Mr. Fronk are both dedicated, conscientious educators and leaders during their career in Millersburg, and has been instrumental in creating a solid foundation for Mr. Haupt to lead the district into the future.”

The next step will be for the board and Mr. Haupt to continue working on a comprehensive superintendent evaluation procedure that will create the conditions to pursue a bold future for Millersburg Area, and to prepare for Mr. Haupt to begin his tenure in Millersburg.
