    CIHC STUDENTS VISIT SURGERY LIVE!

Students from Millersburg Area High School’s Careers in Health Club visited the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts on Tuesday April 11, 2017 to view Surgery Live!. Students viewed an endoscopic gastric sleeve procedure as it was performed in real time.

Surgery Live! is one of four programs throughout the U.S. and the only program in Pennsylvania that allows student groups to see and hear surgical procedures in real time and are able to interact with the surgical team as they operate.

Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center have created an innovative partnership designed to stimulate the interest of high school students in careers in health care. With the support of Highmark BlueShield, Surgery Live! at Whitaker Center is connecting students to enter the operating rooms of Hershey Medical Center through interactive high-definition videoconferencing technology.

In addition to explaining the operation as it happens, members of the surgical team describe their responsibilities and careers in health care, making those careers more interesting and accessible.
